The Gilda&Co. space represents the fulfilment of an old dream of mine: the possibility of realising temporary exhibitions in the heart of the city with the aim of telling stories, visions and fresh perspectives of Italian design.
The name Gilda is a tribute to the activity that took place within these very walls for many years. The first time I saw the space, its evocative power struck me, and I chose to keep it alongside an abbreviation of Compasso, my main business. Thus, Gilda&Co. was born – a symbolic celebration of virtuous synergies.
The gallery is nestled in a compact yet precious space with a street-facing shop window, high ceilings and surprisingly bright light complemented by neutral tones.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the layout, designed by Alessandro Pedretti, is ingeniously modular, comprising a flexible structure that offers boundless compositional possibilities. It serves as an ideal canvas for showcasing various collections of furniture, lighting fixtures, and artistic objects, honoring the distinctive works of individual designers, collective movements, material explorations, or specialized company productions.
Furthermore, the space will serve as a platform for a series of exhibitions curated by the ‘friends’ of Compasso—visionary talents from diverse realms such as art, music, architecture, fashion, and design. These individuals share a profound connection with me, forged over time through mutual affinity. Periodically, they will grace the space with their unique narratives of Italian design, presenting carefully selected pieces from the Compasso archive, including furniture, lighting, objects d’art, literature, photography, and archival materials from our library.
